Book covers, playing cards, illustrations to accompany a Pushkin tale, or a vast stage set for an opera.
A taste of the Phantasmagorical images of Ivan Bilibin...

  1. Such wonderful illustrations - thank you for assembling these! They are my favorite genre. I brought back several Soviet children's books of folk and fairy tales from Russia and Siberia in 1975, purchased in Madras. Bilibin was among them. I display different pages on my bookshelves at different times, often from Vassilisa the Beautiful. The text of mine is sometimes in Tamil, sometimes Russian, once or twice, English. These are large, thin paper covered books loaded with sumptuous illustrations. They cost less than a nickel at the time.
